Truly intense game!

A Tight Game!
- Tony Golder

Phoenix travelled to Old Isleworthians on Saturday , Old Is who play in the Middlesex div 2 ,From the kick off Isle worth played a wide game and Phoenix were caught out after a few minutes when there winger took a pass wide out and crossed the line untouched .

Phoenix were finding it hard to get any go forward ball and
Isleworth were ruling the roost with there no 10 controlling the game ( who plays for Staines academy) but it was the phoenix team who scored next with a fine break in the centres allowed our out of position Tom porter to cross the line to level the scores (5-5) . the Isleworth side were again taking the upper hand in every department but the Phoenix defence was strong until again there no 10 made a break which opened the defence and allowed there centre to cross to again take the lead (10-5) again isle worth
came at Phoenix and again crossed the Phoenix line to take the score to(15-5 ).

Phoenix had to change there approach to the game by playing a
tighter game with some pick and drives and rolling mauls , with one
such drive the ball found its way into Tim Schofields hands and his
drive for the line gave Phoenix there second try and getting them
selves back into the game (15 -10)

Phoenix were now starting to get the upper hand in the tight scrums and with some good drives of the back from James Quick took the game into the Isleworth 22 but the referee adjudging Phoenix for being off side allowed the Isleworth to clear there lines .

The second half carried on where the first ended with game swinging back and forward but good defence from both sides was
not allowing either side to make any head way but it was isle worth who scored next slowly taking the game away from Phoenix (20 -10) but like a true Phoenix side they never gave up and fought there way back into the game with a try from M Lloyd to bring Phoenix once again back into the game (20-17 ).

Both sides where battling to take the game but it was again
the Isleworth side that took the next score with there no 10 crossing
the line to again increase there lead (27-17 ) The next score came from a fumble by there centre and a swift pick up by the Phoenix full back Nick Coventry and he showed the Isleworth defence a clean pair of heals and his pace done the rest with a blistering run down the wing to score the best try of the game (27 22 ) The game ended with another try a piece from both side to take the final score to
(32- 27).

Summary
A good all round performance from all with what was a
good fixture our game was very disjointed but that is understandable with players playing out of position and with not playing together before in some cases but a very pleasing game to watch with neither side dominating

Man of match goes to Nick Coventry who's tacking and strong running kept us in touch in the game ,well played Nick.
