"Another Great Performance"

Phoenix entertained Berkshire Shire Hall at their Institute Road ground this Saturday, Phoenix who have not played a game in the league for three weeks and the first thoughts were they would be a bit rusty without any game play.

In the earlier encounter at Shire Halls ground where Phoenix took the spoils 33-14 Phoenix knew they would be in for a tough game.
Shire Hall had the early exchanges pinning Phoenix back in there half but some strong defence from the Phoenix back row kept the Shire hall onslaught at bay. From an attack from Shire Hall saw the ball turned over and quickly shipped to the Phoenix back line and with the impressive full back A Leavy ghosted into the line and brake through the Shire hall defence to open the scoring (5-0).

Phoenix was now beginning to overpower the Shire Hall team in every department and keeping them on the back foot and prevented them making any headway with some very strong defence. From a Shire Hall scrum which was taken against the head saw a quick ball moved wide to the left winger J Townsend who rounded his winger to cross for the second try (12-0)

Phoenix was beginning to string some good phases together with both forwards and backs linking and making good ground. From a rucked ball a powerful run from inside centre J Winters saw a clever show and break the Shire Hall back line with some good support play from forwards and backs saw the ball end up in the hands of full back A Leavy who crossed for his second (17-0) and putting Phoenix in a strong position.

Phoenix were now in the driving seat and once again took the ball to Shire Hall who were now beginning to tire and a good line break saw the captain Tom Porter run 40 yards to cross and extend the Phoenix lead (24-0)

Phoenix were now being relentless and ruthless in there play and some strong set piece play from the Phoenix front row of J Dixon R Gill and S Hyland( playing his first ever first team game) putting the Shire Hall pack under immense pressure.

The second half started the same way as the first with a strike against the head from R Gill saw the ball spread wide and J Townsend to cross for his second and Phoenix were now out of sight and in a commanding lead (29-0)

With further tries from A Walsh and J Dean Drove the Phoenix side on for more, and the best was saved until last when the impressive Tom Pell spotted a gap in the Shire Hall defence he accelerated into the space and side stepped the full back to score a thirty yard try and complete the riot of as very good Shire hall team (46-0).
