Another win for the Phoenix I

Phoenix travelled to Harwell with the side in a confident mood as Phoenix had beaten there opposition 29-3 in there last encounter back in September.

With both sides warm ups complete started the game with some good phase play, Harwell were determined to avenge their counter parts with some good driving play from their big forwards making life very difficult for Phoenix WHO were finding it hard to put any phase play together.

Phoenix finally put a good passage of play together and a quick ball went down the back line and with the Harwell backs committed it was Bradley Coomber pace allowed him to score the first of his two tries (0-5).

Although phoenix had opened the scoring early Harwell were putting Phoenix under extreme pressure with good driving play through there forwards , but the defence stood strong as it has done all season , with another drive form there forwards the referee awarded Harwell a penalty under the posts for not releasing (3-5).

Phoenix had to knuckle down if they were going to win this game and to add to their woes they lost scrum half A Walsh who broke his finger on came the D Harris who got straight into the action with some strong tackling around the fringes.

It was not long before Phoenix were again on the scoreboard with some strong driving through the forwards and the ever present captain driving over from close range (3-10)

Phoenix next try came from the fly half K Roach with some good support play from both forwards and backs saw him find the line from a close range (3-15).

Phoenix were beginning to get back on top until disaster struck with Phoenix losing both they’re very influential 2nd rowers N Wincomb and A Alderson the first rupturing his bicep and the later breaking his leg in two places , to be placed by C Russell and coach B Duncan .

Phoenix now had to dig deep and with Harwell upping there game the Phoenix defence had to be strong again and again the Harwell forwards battered the Phoenix line but as with every game this season Phoenix held firm until the inevitable happened Phoenix had run out of defence and allowed Harwell back into the game with a try and conversation with brought them right back into the game (10-15).

Again the forwards came again at Phoenix and with the support for Harwell beginning to influence the referee saw K roach sin binned for a very dubious decision.

With Harwell putting on all the pressure it was Phoenix who turned their ball over time and again and managed to clear their lines to ease the pressure.

But against the run of play Phoenix again managed to get themselves on the score board with Bradley Coomber 2nd. (10-20) and another bonus point.

Harwell were again on the attack and again some strong running through their backs saw them break the Phoenix defence once again to get themselves once again into the game (15-20)

It was going to be a very tense last 10 minutes and if Phoenix if we’re going to hold on to this game they had to defend with all their worth and with the clock ticking down a final scrum to Phoenix saw them close the game with a kick to touch.
