Aldermaston 0 –Phoenix 98

Phoenix travelled to Aldermaston for there league fixture this weekend after a good win against Littlemore the previous week, Phoenix were buzzing and raring to go .

From the outset Phoenix gained a good position from a drive up the midfield but was held up, just short of the Aldermaston line, with the scrum set, Phoenix put the push on and James Quick scored with the conversion missed. Phoenix led by 0-5.

Phoenix were beginning to dominate Aldermaston in every phase, winning the Aldermaston Lineouts and in the tight scrum, Robin Gill was striking well against the head and winning most of the opposition’s ball.

From a lineout on the Aldermaston 22, Phoenix won the ball and put a solid drive on. Again Phoenix crossed the line with the conversion being converted by J Townsend (0-12). Phoenix was now in the driving seat.

Next on the score board was C Morgan with the Phoenix back line running a move and allowing him to cross unopposed, again converted By J Townsend.

From the restart J Winters drove the ball up through the middle of the park only to be brought down just outside the Aldermaston 22, but a quick rucked ball saw the skipper T Porter cross the line for Phoenix third try. (0-24)

The game was now becoming a very one sided affair with Phoenix winning every break down, again a good quick ruck saw the ball go wide to the Phoenix left winger L Collins who side stepped his opposite winger to score in the corner (0-29 ).

Aldermaston didn’t have an answer to Phoenix ruthlessness and were scoring every time. Phoenix got the ball with further tries from R Gill and J Willis where the first half ended.(0-41)

In the second half Phoenix were not letting up and some strong runs from the Gazelle A.Jones saw him brushing off the Aldermaston defence, it was as if they were not there. A drive from the gazelle took Phoenix into the Aldermaston’s half, with another good break from J Winters saw him cross the line for the 8 try of the game.

The flood gates were beginning to open and Phoenix where being ruthless in the game play with further tries from J Townsend,.J Winters ,A Walsh ,C Morgan ,J Dean ,D Harris. The final score ending a good day in the Phoenix ranks (0-98).
